Garage Crawl -
April 2013 |
|
|
April 24th, 2013
Good Morning Members,
Yesterday evening Ken & Judy
Brown, Larry & Deanna Skinner, Jim & Dee Moss, Don
McBride, Greg
Wolfe, Mike Bruck and Chris & I did our Garage Crawl to visit
with Fran Arcuri and check out some minor problems with the '65
Corvette which was owned by her late husband Jim.
A few small problems were
addressed, such as
carburetor float
level and throttle linkage
adjustment. Ignition timing was also
found to be off a
considerable amount. However, due to darkness and other
factors, it was decided to continue the work at a later date at
Mike Bruck's garage. Fran's son, Matt was also there and we
exchanged phone numbers to set date & time.
The crawl returned to my
house (which is 50 feet away if you walked or 1/4 mile in our
Vette's)
where snacks and some adult
beverages were consumed. Judging from the laughter
emanating from the kitchen, the ladies must have been
talking about us guys (ya think??).
I have attached a few photos
taken during the event. Enjoy.
Keep the Vette's Rollin'

A Message from the
President |
|
|
April 8th, 2013
A little over three years ago after placing ads, posting
bulletins and spreading word of mouth, about 50 people met at
Starling Chevrolet-Cadillac in DeLand to start a local Corvette
Club. With a lot of help from a lot of people Volusia County
Corvette Association was born.
We decided to base our club on helping others in our
community. We started out with Parker’s Pals as our main
charity. Through them we have delivered hot meals to
families that had more pressing things on their minds, helped
with their annual golf tournaments, refurbished a Jeep Grand
Cherokee for a family in Ormond, as well as sending a family of
a stricken child to Disney World.
Since then we have also helped the Neighborhood Center with
food, goods and cash to help local families. We have helped The
Family Book Store with their effort to send books to servicemen
overseas. Our Club treasury, along individual members, donated
more than $1,000.00 to help two young cheerleading groups with
new uniforms. We made a sizable donation to St. Barnabas Church
to help fund their Soup Kitchen.
The money for these efforts was raised through 50/50
drawings, bake sales, homecoming parades for local schools. In
2011, when we were less than one year old, we put on a pretty
good car show also. We also helped the Arrowhead Tribe, a group
of Pontiac owners, with two car shows to raise funds for
Journey’s End, a hospice for animals in Glenwood.
As with most clubs our membership has changed from that day,
we have gained and lost members. We have lost members who have
come back to re-join. Our list of sponsors has also gone up and
down.
All-in-all I think we have done a good job of doing what we
set out to do and I hope we will continue on this path in the
years to come.
As the current President I want to thank all of you for your
help throughout these years. I think we are a pretty solid group
and will be around for quite a while

Volusia County Corvette Association

January, 17th, 2011
Good morning members,
Sorry this is so late getting out but those of you who saw
the condition of my ankle during the show know why I spent
yesterday with my feet up and didn't venture near the computer
room.
The show sure passed my expectations. It could have been a
little bit warmer but it is January. Everyone who turned out
seemed to enjoy their self. The set-up and tear down went
smoothly. The Squirrel Junction Band was very good, the food
from DeLand Fish House was good and things went pretty smooth.
I think we learned a lot from our first try and with the
caliber of dedicated members working as hard as they did, I am
sure our next try will be even better. The feedback I received
from visitors was more than positive.
I want to thank each and every member who had anything at
all to do with the preparation of the show. You deserve every
bit of praise you are going to be getting over the coming days
from those who attended the show.
Once again, a job well done,
Keep the Vettes Rollin'

July 17th, 2010
This

few others from our hosting provider. It looks like the

this back up and running as quick as possible. Most of the

back end of our site, i.e. email, etc... are still down.
Update: All
areas of the website are working correctly to include the email

Many membership

please make sure that your dues are in at the next meeting on

with the state as an example. The quicker we get those
dues in, the quicker we can get the ball rolling. |

The Birth of a New
Club |
|
|
On
March 9th, 2010, the founding members met, voted and have chosen
a new name, "Volusia County Corvette Association" or
VolusiaCorvette.com for
those that are net savvy. The name was narrowed down from
about 8-10 different names and variations.
Don Ashe had a few teeth to pull while spurring on a good number
of us to get involved with the club. Officers were weighed
and measured and found to be breathing. We now have all
our officer positions filled and you may see the names soon in
the "Contact" section of this website. If you missed the
meeting and want to get involved, I am sure they wont hesitate
to incorporate you into the fold.
Our new charter
was also voted on. What it says, I have no idea. It
will be posted in this section and the "Membership Section" soon
for your review.
Yearly dues were
adopted and will be posted in the "Membership" Section as well. |

May 2010 Corvette Sales |
| |
by
KEITH CORNETT on JUNE
2, 2010
May
2010 Corvette sales report was released today by
General Motors and the good news is that
deliveries are at their highest level since
September 2009. 1,428 Corvettes were delivered
in May compared to April 2010’s 1,089 Corvettes
the month prior. Corvettes haven’t sold this
well since the 1,585 Corvettes sold in September
2009.
Compared to a year ago, sales are off -13.1%
with 1,643 Corvettes sold in May 2009 and
calendar year to date sales are down -18.9%.
We are still
seeing growth in the national inventory. Total
2008-2010 Corvettes on dealers lots grew 272
units over the last month to 4,843. Corvette
Grand Sports currently make up 43% of total
inventory which shows the strength of the new
model. We are monitoring current Corvette ZR1
inventory and our stock report shows 422 2010
Corvettes and 11 2009 Corvette ZR1s are
available.
Several rebates and incentives are still in
place including 0% APR financing on 2010
Corvettes for 60 months or 3.9% APR financing
for 72 months. Also look for the $1000
Toyota/Lexus rebate which is still in effect.

New
Special Edition |
| |
|
GM
is set to launch a new Special Edition of the
Corvette, directly targeting fans of the iconic
sports car
who want something that their neighbor won't have!!!

The Limited Edition car, called the "Carbon Edition," is
not just an appearance package but a truly focused track
machine that we can't wait to get our hands on!!!
First, a bit of history. Back in
2001, Chevrolet decided to revive an old high
performance Corvette option code, giving folks who
wanted a more track-ready version of the 'Vette a more
focused model known as the "Z06." That Z06 was based on
the fifth generation Corvette platform (C5) and was only
offered in the hardtop or "fixed roof
coupe"
body style. It featured an upgraded suspension, bigger
wheels and
tires, and a few other performance tweaks. Initially
offered with a 385-horsepower
engine upgrade, it eventually received the LS6
engine rated at 405 horsepower.
Chevy
sold more than 28,000 of them before the C5 platform was
replaced in 2005.In 2006, Corvette fans rejoiced when
Chevrolet introduced another Z06 model based on the
C6, or sixth generation platform. It had a new
7.0-liter, 427 cubic inch V8 with 100 more horsepower
than the strongest C5 Z06. It also featured a lighter
aluminum frame, balsa wood/carbon fiber composite floors
and a magnesium alloy engine cradle to save even more
weight. The C6 Z06 officially tipped the scales at just
3180 pounds, giving it world-class performance. And with
its sub-$70,000 pricetag it instantly put the Corvette
at the top of the bang-for-your-buck charts for
supercars. The Z06 stood its ground, proudly
representing America as the highest performance Corvette
ever ... until Chevy introduced the even more powerful
ZR1 in 2009. The ZR1 took the Corvette even further up
the performance rankings, with its supercharged
638-horsepower V8, carbon-ceramic
brakes,
carbon-fiber body panels and active suspension
distancing it from its sibling Z06. It was also $30,000
more expensive than the Z06, but its performance spoke
for itself. Z06 lovers wanted some of those upgrades for
themselves, but Chevrolet didn't offer them on the Z06
... until now.

General Motors just introduced the
2010 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 Carbon edition, giving
Corvette buyers another option between the standard Z06
and the top-rung ZR1. The Z06 Carbon retains the
normally aspirated 7.0-liter engine from the regular
Z06, but adds the carbon-ceramic brakes, carbon-fiber
body panels and magnetic ride active damping system of
its supercharged big brother. The Carbon edition is
essentially a Z06 built on a ZR1 chassis, with several
ZR1 carbon fiber body panels.
The Z06 Carbon was built to commemorate the 50th
anniversary of the Corvette's first appearance at the 24
Hours of Le Mans back in 1960. John Fitch and Briggs
Cunningham won their class and finished eighth overall,
behind a string of
Ferraris
and a lone
Aston Martin. Just 500 Z06 Carbon editions will be
built once production starts this fall. They will be
built in just two colors, Inferno Orange or Supersonic
Blue, each paired with black-painted
wheels and a black leather and suede interior.
The Z06 Carbon does have one feature you can't get on
even the ZR1 -- a unique hood that is similar to the one
on the ZR1 but without the ZR1's transparent window.
Most of the carbon fiber body pieces that are left
unpainted on the ZR1 are painted black on the Z06
Carbon, mainly because the clear-coat used on the ZR1 is
super expensive. The glossy black highlights on the
Carbon make the car look menacing, and it is, capable of
lapping Laguna Seca raceway a full three seconds a lap
faster than the standard Z06.
For those who miss out on snagging one of the 500 Carbon
editions, many of the upgrades will be available as part
of two option packages available on regular 2011 models.
The Z07 package includes the Brembo
brake
system, wheels and tires as well as the active
suspension. The carbon fiber package will add the front
splitter, sill extensions and rear lip spoiler.
Unfortunately, the hood is being saved for the 500
limited edition cars. The Corvette Z06 Carbon edition
and new option packages will go on sale in late summer
at prices that haven't yet been announced. |
